無論旋轉器是否與光束偏振相對，石英晶體偏振旋轉器均以固定角度旋轉入射光束的偏振面。偏振旋轉器能夠完美取代以特定角度旋轉偏振的波片。該旋轉器可產生偏振旋轉，其旋轉係由石英晶體本身特有的旋光性造成，有別於光軸周圍的旋轉器方向。該石英晶體偏振旋轉器僅需調整至與光線旋轉方向相互垂直即可。目前提供可於Nd:YAG波長以固定45度或90度旋轉的旋轉器，以及安裝於黑色陽極電鍍鋁框的旋轉器。
