Using High Performance Boom Stand Systems

High performance boom stands are designed to meet the needs of even the most demanding applications. With the appropriate boom stand and mounting adapter, cameras, lenses, microscopes, lighting, and more can be easily integrated into an imaging system. Additionally, high performance boom stands are capable of providing support and stability for heavy loads. Each stand includes the weighted base, vertical post, locking collar, and a unique arm. The mounting adapters are compatible with all boom stand options. Boom stand systems are recommended for all high-end imaging applications.

Connecting Boom Stands and Accessories
Figure 1: Connecting Boom Stands and Accessories

To connect the standard mounting plate and ¾" post adapter to any of the boom stands: unthread the smooth black anodized aluminum knob, put the narrow top of the adapter though the mounting hole on the boom stand and reattach the knob. The white plastic locking arm will press against the adapter and can be tightened down with the levered set screw (Figure 1). For the adjustable mounting plate, there is no aluminum knob and the white plastic locking arm is used alone to secure the plate.

The standard boom stand (#54-120) provides great stability to stationary imaging applications that include heavy loads that do not require motion. Figure 2 shows the standard boom stand with the adjustable mounting plate (#54-123), which adds focusing adjustment to the system. The adjustable mounting plate (Figure 3) features both rack and pinion and tilt adjustment in addition to a ¼-20 stud for mounting cameras and imaging equipment. The rack and pinion provides one dimensional motion, while the connection to the boom stand allows for tilt adjustment that is fixed with a set screw. Coupling the adjustable mounting plate with the ball bearing boom stand enables easy multi-dimensional dimensional motion in an optical system.

Figure 4 features a ball bearing boom stand (#54-121) with a standard mounting plate (#54-122) attached. The stability is comparable to the standard boom stand with the added feature of ball bearing motion. This ultra-smooth movement is ideal for applications that require scanning across a sample. The standard mounting plate (Figure 5) offers a simple connection to a variety of cameras, microscopes, and components via a ¼-20 stud.

Figure 7: ¾" Post Adapter

The articulating arm boom stand (#54-119) is ideal for applications that require a lot of movement and adjustment. The flexible arm can easily be maneuvered in and out of hard to reach locations. The adaptability is useful when accompanied with fixed focal length lenses and zoom lenses. Figure 6 shows the articulating arm boom stand paired with the ¾" post adapter (#54-124). The ¾" Post Adapter (Figure 7) gives you the ability to couple to the rack and pinion focusing mounts and any other ¾" post accessories. The bottom piece unthreads to slide on a mount. The handle loosens to give tilt adjustment.

Each boom stand and adapter provides unique characteristics that make these products ideal for many different applications. For assistance selecting the appropriate boom stand and mounting adapter for you, please contact our engineering team.
