氯化鈉 (NaCl) 材料常用於FTIR光譜儀。NaCl 是成本相對較低的立方體晶體材料，對250nm - 16μm範圍內的光具有極佳的穿透能力。在這一很大的光譜範圍內，其折射率介於1.4 - 1.6之間。NaCl具備吸水特性，因此樣本應不含水。氯化鈉窗口片對熱衝擊非常敏感，但是可在高達400°C的環境中使用。NaCl的密度是2.17g/cm3 ，努氏硬度為18.2。
