溴化鉀 (KBr) 材料常用於FTIR光譜儀。KBr的光譜範圍較氯化鈉 (NaCl) 稍大，對250nm - 26μm範圍內的光具有極佳的穿透能力。在此範圍內，其折射率介於1.46 - 1.59之間。KBr是水溶性物質，因此應防止窗口片表面暴露於潮濕環境中。若暴露於潮濕環境中，該窗口片的表面會降級。溴化鉀窗口片對機械衝擊有很高的抵抗力，可以將其輕鬆切割，能用於高達300°C的環境中。KBr的密度是2.75g/cm3，努氏硬度為7.0。
